Using a combination of interviews, the 1911 census, photographs and other documentary evidence I have produce an account of Glenarm’s social history focussed around the 1900s. I have enriched this where possible. The research was initially carried out in order to create plaques to mark previous shops along Toberwine Street around the 1900s.

One issue with the research is that house numbers have changed since 1911. In addition, some houses were broken up into flats or in later times two houses have been joined to become one. This means there may be some errors in present day numbering or 2 neighbouring numbers will be given.

We have been fortunate to be able to add to this information and would like to continue to do so. If you are interested in adding to the research please contact

Altmore Street 1911 Census

Street numbers given are those recorded in the 1911 Census.

These numbers have since changed.
